The Video Head Impulse Test provides an independent assessment for each ear including; the lateral canals, the superior vestibular nerve, and both the anterior and posterior semi-circular canals. During the assessment, you will be fitted with light-weight goggles which are used to monitor eye movement and collect impulses.
Your audiologist will caution you to anticipate movement and avoid blinking before quickly moving your head in different directions. Those with standard reflexes will be able to maintain a stable gaze whilst focusing their visual field at a fixed point. Those suffering with diminished semi-circular canal function will struggle to keep up.
