A balance platform/sway test monitors equilibrium dysfunction, providing vital information about a patient’s stability, control and potential risk of falling. A simple analysis taking less than five minutes to complete, pressure recordings are documented while the patients stands in a series of four positions.
During the first series of stances, the patient is observed on a solid surface. Initially with the eyes open, followed by a measurement with the eyes closed. The same process is repeated on a dynamic surface. The test gives the audiologist a clear indication of the weight bearing on each foot and the patient’s sway patterns from left to right and unilaterally.
